Although the Counter-Reformation imposed drastic iconic rules, El Greco paintings are illuminated by a dark light, that of the solar eclipse. Men and animals face the same predestination. Landscapes owershadowed by sulphurous skies, blood that swells the wrists, transfigured bodies. Just the saints are the most ruined by the desire and the sky: they sorrowful look up, invoking some kind of compensation.  © Graziano Spinosi
