Emaciated face and stare into the space: this is the Romantic spleen, the fever of the soul that blazes in the eight hundred. After the alphabetical order of the eighteenth-century encyclopaedia, when the noise of the first industrial revolution has not yet appeased, the landscape reveals the inwardness and takes on the strong colours of utopia: loss of control, titanism, longing of infinity, disenchantment, voluptuousness of the suffering. The feeling is everithing, Faust says to his Goethe. © Graziano Spinosi
